August 1st, 2002 - Will Ogg Vorbis replace MP3? Ogg Vorbis v1.0, just officially released, is a new audio compression format that is very similar to MP3, WMA, and VQF. July 18th, 2002 - Yahama is set to release a new CD burner (CRW-F1) that features a new technology called Disc T@2 (Tattoo) that allows text and images to be drawn on the unused portion of a CD-R disc. You can now etch a memo, song list, cd covers or photo thumbnails right onto the bottom of the disc. [Full Details] Also coming some time in October, Panasonic will be releasing DVD Burner II Multi drive, which will read and write a number of formats, including DVD-RAM, DVD-R, DVD-RW, CD-R and CD-RW, as well as handle playback of standard formats like DVD-ROM and DVD Audio, among others.
